Pros

  • Wide variety of American history resources
  • Well designed lessons

Cons

  • Activities are designed for teachers to use in in-person classes. Unclear how many transfer to at home learning.
  • Some content is complete while others require you to purchase a book or go to a different site.

Zinn is a free resource bank of history materials, lessons, and activities for students modeled on Howard Zinn’s A People’s History of the United States. Resources can be filtered by grade level, time period, resource type, and theme. Lessons include articles to read, questions for students, and handouts. Resources are heavily biased towards the upper grades– there are few to no lessons for below sixth grade, a few in sixth to eighth grade, and a ton for high school students.
